We're looking for an Automation Engineer to join our RME (Reliability Maintenance and Engineering) Team at our brand new site in Horsley Park.
The Automation Engineer (AE) is a hands-on controls engineering role responsible for fault-finding, troubleshooting, programming, and continuously improving PLC-based controls solutions for automated material handling equipment (MHE). This includes conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print-and-apply systems, scales, Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems, and control cabinets.
You will independently diagnose complex controls faults using structured troubleshooting methodologies, develop and modify PLC programs, and drive measurable reliability improvements across the site. You will also mentor and train Engineering Technicians on device-level troubleshooting and preventive maintenance practices.

Key job responsibilities
• Serve as the site-level Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all PLC-based controls systems, industrial networks, and sensor technologies within the building. Independently monitor, fault-find, and repair systems to deliver high equipment availability.
• Train technicians in controls systems fault-finding, PLC diagnostics, and industrial network troubleshooting to raise the technical capability of the site maintenance team.
• Work within the AU/EU Controls network to enhance the capability to monitor Material Handling Equipment (MHE) metrics and provide visualization and data to internal customers by means of troubleshooting and prioritizing.
• Actively participate in or own continuous improvement projects coordinated by the AU/EU Controls network.
• Work with IT, EU Controls Engineering and Operations Engineering to ensure all systems are correctly documented and that accurate backup libraries are maintained.
• Work alongside global teams to support the installation and commission of new equipment.
• Support other sites in the AU network as required.
• Interpreting both mechanical and electrical drawings plus understanding and developing improvement strategies for code conforming to IEC 61131-3.
