Software Development Manager - FBA - Inventory Authority Technology(IAT), Inventory Authority Platform (IAP)
Bengaluru, Karnataka, IND
full-timeSoftware DevelopmentJob Description
READY TO DO SOMETHING BIG?
How would you architect the next generation of mission-critical systems that serve as the single source of truth for every unit of inventory flowing through Amazon's global supply chain? Every seller shipment, every fulfillment center pick is grounded in one question: "what do we have, and where is it?" Inventory Authority answers that question — at the scale of trillions of dollars in goods, billions of events per day, and hundreds of millions of customers worldwide.
Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) gives sellers in 135 countries — from Fortune 50 enterprises to hundreds of thousands of small businesses — access to Amazon's worldwide distribution network as a service. Just as AWS turned infrastructure into a service, FBA turns world-class logistics into one. Inventory Authority sits at the heart of that promise: without an accurate, real-time, globally consistent view of inventory, none of it works — not seller economics, not the placement and replenishment decisions that move billions of units across the network.
In a very real way, the work on this team changes lives. We wake up every day thinking about how to enable Selling Partners to succeed by building platforms that are highly scalable, highly reliable, and accurate — and through their success, we deliver unmatched selection and value to Amazon customers.
As a technical leader within FBA, you will disrupt e-commerce by building distributed systems at Amazon scale. You will own technical strategy, lead projects demanding creative thinking and deep mastery of the problem space, and collaborate on product decisions with partner teams. You challenge yourself and others to produce best-in-class solutions to the hardest problems. You are a thought leader who proves it by shipping, with a high bar for code quality, design, and architecture.
You will also help redefine how software gets built at Amazon. This organization is pioneering an AI-native software development lifecycle — Spec driven development, AI-generated designs and tests, AI-assisted operations, AI-driven planning. We are not exploring AI tooling; we are operating with it and pushing it forward. As an SDM here, you will champion AI adoption, set the productivity bar, and build a culture where engineers compound their impact through AI-augmented workflows.
We operate as a startup within Amazon — high ownership, flexibility in product and technology direction, and willingness to take on problems where the path forward is unclear. Backed by passionate leaders and a strong team culture, we make hard trade-offs, understand *why* we make them, and change the world together. Come, join us and build the future.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead a team of software engineers
building distributed systems at Amazon scale. Set technical direction for your team, raise the bar on design and code quality, and partner closely with engineering and product peers to deliver best-in-class solutions for our customers.
- Turn ambiguity into elegant systems.
Take open-ended business problems and map them to durable, simple technical solutions — making trade-offs between performance, cost, and complexity explicit.
- Own your team's roadmap and vision.
Create the 1–2 year technical plan for your area, align it with broader org strategy, and collaborate with leaders across Science, Engineering, and Product to sequence the work.
- Deliver, predictably.
Manage execution against project plans and delivery commitments. Run the day-to-day operating cadence — sprint planning, design and code reviews, on-call, and launch readiness.
- Hire and develop strong engineers.
Raise the hiring bar on every loop, coach SDEs from early career through senior, and build a team people want to join and stay on.
- Drive operational excellence.
Own availability, latency, and cost for your services. Lead the team through incidents, root-cause rigorously, and turn operational signals into durable improvements.
- Champion AI-native engineering.
Drive your team's adoption of AI across the SDLC — AI-generated tests and designs, AI-assisted operations and planning. Experiment, scale what works.
- Build relationships across Amazon.
Engage with partner teams to evangelize your team's product and platform, unblock dependencies, and represent your team's technical point of view.
- Stay close to the technology.
Be a hands-on technical leader who earns trust with engineers by diving deep when it matters and proving ideas by getting them built.
About the team
Inventory Authority Platform (IAP) is the system of record for every unit Amazon holds — across fulfillment centers, sort centers, and third-party locations worldwide. Our platforms ingest billions of inventory events every day and serve the answers that downstream supply chain decisions depend on: replenishment, placement, seller economics, and cross-border fulfillment. When we get it right, the rest of the supply chain gets to be right.
We operate as a startup within Amazon — high ownership, flexibility in product and technical direction, and a appetite for problems where the path forward is unclear. We are also one of the teams pioneering Amazon's AI-native software development lifecycle, building the engineering culture the rest of the company will adopt next. If you want to lead engineers who ship at scale, raise the bar on operational excellence, and help invent how software gets built — this is the team.
