Infrastructure Support Engineer, IREO
Melbourne, Victoria, AUS, Sydney, New South Wales, AUS
full-timeSystems, Quality, & Security EngineeringJob Description
G'day! You've found an opportunity that could define your next chapter.
Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance with the ability to successfully complete an Organisational Suitability Assessment. More information regarding security clearances can be found at https://www.agsva.gov.au/.
Your Opportunity
Imagine being part of the team that keeps the world's most advanced cloud infrastructure running — not just maintaining it, but pushing it forward. This is your chance to work at the intersection of leading technology and real-world impact, where the systems you support and the problems you solve directly enable innovation at a scale few ever experience.
You'll step into a role where no two days look the same. From debugging complex technical systems to scripting elegant solutions in modern programming languages, you'll be the person teams rely on when it matters most. You'll collaborate with a global community of software engineers, hardware specialists, network architects, and security experts — all united by a shared commitment to delivering seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost.
This isn't just a technical support role. It's a launchpad. You'll gain hands-on experience with tools and services that exist beyond the scope of native AWS products — systems most engineers never get to touch. Every challenge you solve here builds expertise that will set you apart for the rest of your career.
The culture? Inclusive, bold, and empowering. Your ideas won't just be heard — they'll be backed. You'll own problems from diagnosis to resolution, and you'll do it surrounded by people who are as passionate about what they build as you are about what you'll become.
Key job responsibilities
You'll be the technical backbone of a team that ensures Australia's most critical cloud infrastructure never misses a beat. Your days will be defined by solving problems that others can't — diagnosing complex system behaviours, tracing issues through layers of infrastructure, and delivering solutions that keep services running at the highest standards of safety and security.
You'll write scripts and automation in modern programming languages that eliminate repetitive work and accelerate incident resolution. When something breaks, you'll be the calm, methodical expert who isolates root causes and implements fixes that prevent recurrence. When systems are running smoothly, you'll be the one making them run better — identifying optimisation opportunities and building tooling that raises the bar for the entire team.
Collaboration is at the heart of what you do. You'll work alongside engineers across AWS globally, sharing knowledge, contributing to operational excellence, and helping shape best practices that scale across data centres worldwide. You'll engage with systems that sit outside the typical AWS product suite, expanding your technical breadth with every interaction.
You'll also be a voice for continuous improvement — championing automation, documenting solutions, and mentoring teammates who are earlier in their journey. Your technical curiosity and drive to understand how things work at the deepest level will be your greatest asset as you navigate the thousands of variables that impact our supply chain and infrastructure delivery.
A day in the life
You start by triaging ticket queues, ensuring SLAs are met across both internal and partner service teams. A complex escalation arrives — you dive deep, leveraging your Linux expertise to pinpoint the root cause of a software-based issue and deliver a solution that prevents recurrence.
You step back to see the bigger picture — analysing incident trends, developing metrics, and creating procedures and documentation that drive lasting operational improvement. You collaborate with internal software development teams to enhance systems and services within your team's scope, while coordinating company-wide initiatives like patching, operating system migrations, and code releases.
You engage in knowledge-sharing sessions with experienced engineers, exchanging troubleshooting techniques and mentoring teammates. Throughout it all, you're providing valuable assistance in escalations, innovating solutions, and making the systems better and the team stronger with every problem you solve.
