Role Overview

We're looking for a Backend Engineering Manager to lead and scale our backend infrastructure team. This high-impact role reports to the CTO with significant opportunity to shape our technical architecture and engineering culture as we scale.

You will be drive technical excellence while building a high-performing team - ensuring we deliver robust, scalable backend systems that power seamless Web3 payments. This role is perfect for a crypto-native engineering leader who excels at balancing technical depth with people management.

Responsibilities

Own the overall output of the backend engineering team - deliver reliable, scalable infrastructure that supports our growing Web3 payments platform
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of backend engineers while fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning
Collaborate with product and protocol teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions
Establish engineering best practices, code quality standards, and deployment processes
Lead incident response and post-mortem processes to continuously improve system reliability

Requirements

Experience as an IC engineer with staff level output
Strong technical background in distributed systems, APIs, and database design
Opinions on a modern cloud stack
Leadership experience in high-performing engineering teams
Experience with payment systems, financial infrastructure, or fintech applications
Exceptional communicator who can translate technical concepts to cross-functional stakeholders
Data-driven approach to decision making with focus on system performance and team productivity

Nice to Have

Previously worked at crypto startup or Web3 infrastructure company
Experience with blockchain integrations, smart contracts, or DeFi protocols
Background with high-scale payment processing or financial compliance systems
Track record scaling backend systems at a high-growth startup
