Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve faults across submarine cable systems, including optical line terminals and power feed equipment, to restore service within agreed timelines.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and health checks on cables and associated transmission gear.
  • Interpret cable fault data and pinpoint fault locations along the cable route.
  • Coordinate with cable repair vessels and marine teams during fault localisation and recovery operations.
  • Oversee installation, testing and commissioning of terminal station equipment and power feeding systems.
  • Monitor network performance and escalate anomalies promptly.
  • Compile detailed technical reports, test records, and as-built documentation for each maintenance or repair activity.
  • Liaise with vendors, consortium partners and landing station operators to align on repair schedules and technical standards.
  • Uphold safety and quality protocols in line with industry and regulatory standards during all field and station work.
  • Provide on-call support and respond to emergency cable outages, including off-hours and rotating shift coverage as operationally required.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in submarine cable systems, telecommunications transmission, or fibre-optic network maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of optical transmission technologies, submarine line terminal equipment, power feed systems, and fault-location tools such as OTDR/COTDR; familiarity with NMS monitoring platforms.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities, with clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel and respond to emergency call-outs, as the role involves time-sensitive fault response.
