Who is Shift?

At Shift, we’re business specialists dedicated to helping Australian SMEs take control of their cashflow, streamline trade terms and choose the right financial products.

We believe Australian businesses are the driving force behind our economy and are core to our communities. That’s why our business expertise, focus on relationships, and market-leading technology is at the core of everything we do. We’ve helped solve the credit and payment pain points for more than 30,000 businesses, providing over $6 billion in aggregate funding.

Our unique approach to product innovation combined with our collaborative culture means you can build your career in a supportive environment. You’ll be joining a diverse team of over 300 people who are always looking to deliver better outcomes for Australian businesses.

About the role:
We're expanding our Trade team at Shift and are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with full stack expertise, leaning towards front-end development. In this pivotal role, you'll work collaboratively to deliver high-impact features and elegant user experiences, while also supporting the backend systems that power our trade platform. You’ll be a key contributor to both technical direction and hands-on implementation within a tight-knit, agile team focused on delivering value to our users.

What you'll do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain modern, scalable front-end applications primarily using JavaScript/TypeScript (ReactJS)

  • Support and enhance backend services in C# (.NET) to create seamless integration and robust system functionality

  • Partner with designers, product owners, and the team to take concepts from idea to delivery, focusing on usability and performance

  • Participate in planning, prioritisation, and execution within agile sprint cycles

  • Contribute to architectural decisions for both front-end and back-end, ensuring maintainability and scalability

  • Champion front-end engineering best practices, code quality, accessibility, and continuous improvement

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and advocate for thoughtful adoption where it benefits the team and users

  • Help ensure system reliability and meet SLOs through high-quality, maintainable code

What you’ll bring:

  • 6+ years of experience building production software, with a strong focus on front-end frameworks like React.js (or similar)

  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, with a strong understanding of front-end architecture and building engaging interfaces

  • Experience integrating front-end with RESTful APIs and event-driven microservices

  • Solid working knowledge of backend development using C# and .NET

  • Experience working with Azure or other cloud platforms

  • Familiarity with DevOps tools and practices (e.g. GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Octopus)

  • Passion for crafting intuitive, responsive, and accessible user interfaces

  • Strong commitment to testing, quality, and reliable delivery across the software stack

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills – you enjoy working cross-functionally

  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and problem solving in a dynamic environment

Key benefits:

  • Collaborative teams – a flat structure means everyone can learn from colleagues and senior leaders around the business.

  • Be involved – come together with all of your colleagues every 100 days to share the product and technology roadmap and business strategy.

  • Flexible working environment – we’re headquartered in North Sydney with state-based workplaces and offer a flexible work policy.

  • Family support – industry leading 26 weeks paid parental leave.

  • Purpose built spaces within our office – designed for collaboration, brainstorming, socialising, and focused work.

  • Range of benefits supporting your physical, psychological and financial wellbeing. From a day off on your birthday to excellent end of trip facilities.
