Our client is a well-established organisation in the marine and engineering sector, delivering high-quality turnkey solutions across regional and international projects. They are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to lead their commercial function and drive business growth.
Role Overview
The Commercial Manager will oversee the Commercial Department, ensuring effective tendering, contract management, cost control, and compliance. This role works closely with senior management and cross-functional teams to support project success, manage risks, and enhance profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the Commercial team to ensure operational excellence.
- Prepare and present KPI reports, monthly HOD reports, and commercial performance updates.
- Review, implement, and enhance Commercial Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Assist senior management in evaluating incoming RFQs and assigning them to the team.
- Oversee and support the full tendering process, ensuring compliance with technical, regulatory, and commercial requirements.
- Ensure billing complies with contractual terms and purchase orders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Attend and lead daily and weekly commercial meetings.
- Handle contractual disputes and negotiate settlement agreements.
- Oversee and maintain commercial databases, masterlists, and ERP systems.
- Prepare handover documentation for awarded tenders.
- Review and approve Purchase Orders (PO) and Work Orders (WO).
- Source, evaluate, and appoint subcontractors in collaboration with operations.
- Manage variation orders and change requests during project execution.
- Ensure compliance with WorkplaceSafety and Health (WSH) policies and statutory requirements.
- Provide guidance on integrating WSH considerations into tendering and subcontractor engagements.
- Support service reports and other commercial documentation as required.
- Perform ad-hoc duties as assigned by senior management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
- Professional certifications such as MRICS, PMP, or equivalent will be advantageous.
- 5 - 8 years of relevant experience in commercial management, contracts, or procurement.
- Strong background in tendering, RFQs, and contract negotiations.
- Experience in the marine, construction, engineering, or oil & gas industries is preferred.
- Proven leadership experience in managing commercial teams.
- Familiarity with financial reporting, compliance, and ERP systems.
