Job Description

Key Summary of the Position:

To oversee and support the electrical operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and compliance activities of the assigned fleet/vessels while ensuring safe, efficient, and uninterrupted functioning of all electrical and automation systems in accordance with company standards, statutory regulations, and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Operations & Maintenance

  • Monitor and support vessel electrical systems including power generation, distribution, automation, navigation, communication, and control systems.
  • Coordinate with vessel Chief Engineers and Electrical Officers for timely troubleshooting and rectification of electrical defects.
  • Provide technical guidance for preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical equipment onboard vessels.
  • Review machinery performance reports and recommend improvements for operational efficiency and reliability.
  • Ensure planned maintenance activities related to electrical systems are completed as per schedules.

Dry Docking & Repairs

  • Assist in planning and execution of electrical repair works during dry docking, surveys, and major maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate with shipyards, service engineers, and vendors for repair and installation jobs.
  • Verify completion and quality of electrical work carried out onboard and during docking periods.
  • Monitor repair costs and ensure work is executed within approved budgets and timelines.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure vessels comply with statutory, class, flag state, and company electrical safety requirements.
  • Support implementation of safety procedures and electrical best practices onboard.
  • Monitor compliance related to electrical equipment certifications, testing, and inspections.
  • Participate in incident investigations related to electrical failures or safety concerns and recommend corrective actions.

Procurement & Inventory Support

  • Coordinate with procurement teams for sourcing electrical spares, consumables, and service requirements.
  • Review requisitions and ensure timely availability of critical electrical spares onboard.
  • Assist in vendor evaluation and technical assessment of electrical equipment and services.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain proper records of electrical maintenance, breakdown reports, repairs, and technical updates.
  • Prepare technical reports, defect analyses, and performance summaries for management review.
  • Support audits, inspections, and internal reporting requirements.

Coordination & Communication

  • Liaise with vessel staff, classification societies, equipment manufacturers, and external service providers.
  • Provide timely support to vessels for operational emergencies and technical issues.
  • Assist senior management in implementing fleet-wide electrical improvement initiatives.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Marine Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in marine electrical operations, vessel management, or related technical roles.
  • Relevant sailing experience as Electrical Officer / ETO or shore-based experience in marine electrical operations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in marine electrical and TFDE propulsion systems, including automation, generators, switchboards, and troubleshooting of MSBD, ESBD, PMS, AMS, ACB, and related systems.
  • Prior experience in handling fleet electrical maintenance and vessel support (ie: Terasaki, Kawasaki and etc) will be an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with class and statutory regulations related to marine electrical systems.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have prior work experience in LNG carriers.
