Commercial Lines Underwriter

Our client is looking to hire an experienced Commercial Lines Underwriter.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing and developing relationships with insurance intermediaries while underwriting a diverse portfolio of commercial risks across Property &Casualty (P&C), Financial Lines, Marine, Fire, and Work Injury Compensation(WICA), etc.

This is an excellent opportunity for an underwriting professional who enjoys balancing technical underwriting expertise with broker relationship management and business development responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Underwrite and manage a portfolio of Commercial Lines business across, Property& Casualty (P&C), Financial Lines, Marine, Work Injury Compensation (WICA), etc.
• Assess and evaluate risks, ensuring profitability and alignment with underwriting guidelines.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and intermediaries to drive sustainable business growth.
• Review submissions, negotiate terms and pricing, and issue quotations within delegated authority limits.
• Monitor portfolio performance and recommend corrective actions where required.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders including claims, operations, and product teams to deliver excellent service standards.
• Support business development initiatives and identify opportunities to expand market presence.
• Stay abreast of market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments affecting the insurance industry.

Requirements

• Minimum 3–5 years of insurance industry experience in underwriting, or broking insurance functions.
• Strong understanding of one or more commercial insurance classes including P&C, Financial Lines, Marine, Fire, or WICA.
• Experience working with brokers, agents, and other insurance intermediaries.
• Sound technical underwriting and risk assessment skills.
• Strong negotiation, relationship management, and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Relevant insurance qualifications (ANZIIF, ACII, or equivalent) will be advantageous.
