MECHANICAL DRAUGHTSMAN

1. Conceptualization & Drafting

• 3D Modeling & 2D Drafting: Creating detailed drafts using CAD software like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Creo.
• Tolerance & Stack-Up Analysis: Performing calculations to ensure individual parts fit together seamlessly.
• Material Selection: Choosing the most appropriate and cost-effective materials (e.g., plastics, sheet metal) for the design. [1, 2, 3, 4]

2. Prototyping & Testing

• Virtual Simulation: Conducting structural, thermal, and stress analyses using CAE/FEA software.
• Prototype Development: Overseeing the creation of physical prototypes and evaluating them for form, fit, and function. [1, 2, 3, 4]

3. Manufacturability (DFM & DFA)

• Design for Manufacturing/Assembly: Designing components so they can be produced easily, efficiently, and with minimal waste.
• Tooling Design: Designing custom jigs, fixtures, and molds required for mass production. [1, 2, 3]

4. Documentation & Compliance

• Engineering Drawings: Creating and reviewing 2D drawings using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to communicate exact specifications to manufacturers.
• Documentation: Managing Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering change notices (ECR/DCN), and technical manuals.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring all designs meet industry-standard safety codes and environmental regulations. [1]

5. Collaboration

• Cross-functional Teamwork: Liaising with electrical engineers, industrial designers, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless product integration.
• Supplier Coordination: Working with vendors and suppliers regarding part specifications, custom components, and manufacturing costs. [1, 2]
