EEE / Satellite Research Centre (SaRC):
SaRC is dedicated to performing R&D projects in space science and technology. SaRC has successfully developed, launched, and operated 13 satellites in orbit (2023). The Centre has more than 12 years of accumulated experience and data for satellite design and operation. SaRC has a full-fledged of facilities to realize spacecraft simulation, testing, integration, and operation. The engineering laboratory, clean rooms and mission control room are equipped with specialized equipment such as the thermal vacuum chamber and S/X band 6.1m antenna dish. SaRC is working closely with local SME, regional MNC, universities, and space agencies. The objective is to share and collaborate with international expertise to achieve excellence in space.
Key Job Purpose:
We are looking for a Research Associate to work on data assimilation system for regional numerical weather prediction (NWP) system. The role will focus on exploring and adding new space-based observations in the next-generation NWP system jointly developed by the Climate and Weather Research Alliance Singapore (CAWRAS). The candidate needs to have a good working knowledge in data assimilation methods such as 3D/$D-var, Ensemble methods and Kalman filters. Familiarity w JEDI-based data assimilation system is a good advantage. Prior knowledge and experience in satellite observation, pre-processing, quality control, error modelling and correction are an advantage. Good programming experience is required (eg: Python, Fortran, C++).
Key Responsibilities:
Assimilate new satellite observations
Analyze the impact of data assimilation on weather prediction
Perform data-preprocessing, quality control, error modelling and correction
Write reports and scientific publications
Job Requirements:
Master qualification degree in Engineering or Computer Science or related field
Familiarity w data assimilation and data processing
Good written and oral communication skills
Proficiency in programming and analysis
Competent in data analysis and quality control
Ability to work independently and as a team member
