Job Description
The Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials (I-FIM) is seeking a research fellow to work on the design, synthesis, crystal growth, structural characterization, and functional-property investigation of low-dimensional and van der Waals layered materials. The research will focus on transition-metal-based two-dimensional crystalline systems, including layered halide materials, transition-metal dichalcogenides, and van der Waals heterostructures. The work will establish structure-property relationships by examining how composition, crystal structure, dimensionality, interlayer interactions, and transition-metal electronic states influence optical, electronic, catalytic, and stimuli-responsive behaviour relevant to I-FIM's functional intelligent materials program.
Job Requirements
- PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related discipline
- A strong background in inorganic materials synthesis, crystal growth of low-dimensional and layered compounds, and structural characterization is required
- Expertise in single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, crystallographic structure solution and refinement, transition-metal chemistry, and structure-property correlation is essential
- Experience with layered halide systems, transition-metal dichalcogenides, van der Waals-related materials, magnetic or optical properties, and energy materials will be advantageous
