Job Description

The successful candidate will work in the laboratory of Dr. Alexander Vinogradov (NUS Presidential Young Professor; lab website: https://vinogradov.science) on mRNA display-based discovery of cyclic peptides against protein targets of high therapeutic potential. The candidate will additionally be appointed as a laboratory safety lead and will be responsible for maintaining the safety standards and documentation in the laboratory.

The main responsibilities of the position include:
• Participate in the design of and conduct mRNA display affinity selection of cyclic peptides.
• Conduct the associated biochemical work, including mRNA library preparation.
• Conduct peptide synthesis and characterization of identified hit peptides.
• Present oral research updates in group meetings and written updates .
• Ensure the safety and compliance of lab activities.

Maintain the safety record of the lab, on-board new lab members, and coordinate safety/logistical issues with the department team.

Qualifications

Qualifications / Discipline:
• BSc/MSc degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology, or chemical engineering.  

Skills:
• Strong interest in at least one of the following areas: biochemistry, drug discovery, peptide chemistry, combinatorial chemistry, mRNA display, and bioorganic chemistry.
• Prior research experience with basic biochemical techniques (PCR, PAGE, etc).
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Experience:  
• Experience in peptide synthesis and prior publications are not required but will be considered an asset.
• At least 1 year of primary research experience in biochemistry/cell biology.
• Candidates without experience, as well as those considering pursuing further academic or research training such as an MSc or PhD, are welcome to apply.
