Reporting Officer: Programme Lead, Family Growth Programme
Teenage years can be one of the most significant periods of change for both young people and their caregivers.
Young people are developing their identity,i ndependence and aspirations. Parents are learning how to support their children in new ways.
Sometimes communication becomes difficult.
Sometimes misunderstandings grow.
Sometimes families simply need someone to walk alongside them.
The Family Development Mentor exists to strengthen these relationships.
Through home visits, family engagement activities and regular support, Family Development Mentors help parents and young people better understand one another, communicate more openly and work towards shared goals.
Key Responsibilities
· Build and sustain trusting relationships with children, youth and caregivers.
· Conduct home visits and family engagement sessions.
· Facilitate meaningful conversations and shared goal-setting between parents and youth.
· Support families in strengthening parent-child communication and relationships.
· Coordinate with schools, academic coaches, mentors and community partners.
· Support workshops, family outings and programme activities.
· Identify family strengths, needs and developmental goals.
· Maintain accurate documentation, progress notes and outcome tracking.
· Refer families to appropriate services when additional support is required.
Requirements
· Diploma or Degree in Psychology, Education, Community Development, Social Sciences or related field.
· Experience working with children, youth and/or families is preferred.
· Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
· Comfortable conducting home visits and engaging families from diverse backgrounds.
· Able to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
· Good writing and documentation skills.
· Belief in the strengths, potential and development of children, youth and families.
