Shopify is looking for a Senior Tax Analyst to join its Indirect Tax Team. The role will support indirect tax compliance, research, planning, audits and controversy, including building new Indirect Tax tools and processes and with AI. The position will report to the Lead of Indirect Tax in the US and will provide support to the whole Indirect Tax Team.

Responsibilities:
As part of the Indirect Tax Team your role will focus on US indirect tax compliance and audits, assistance with tax planning, tax automation processes and solutions. The role may also include Canadian and international indirect tax compliance and processes.
Own the day to day indirect tax compliance, including preparation and initial review of sales/use tax returns. This includes working with technology tools ( AI tools, BigQuery/SQL, tax engines, Netsuite) and third party compliance partners.
Help with indirect tax inquiries and/or audits, including data collection and analysis, gathering documentation and investigating issues.
Own monthly GL account reconciliations and related journal entries for indirect tax accounts.
Support the preparation of indirect tax accruals for essential accounts for SOX control purposes.
Assist with indirect tax research for new business initiatives and projects.
Partner with members of other teams to provide analysis on a variety of indirect tax questions from the business.
Collaborate with Accounting, Legal, Treasury, and other cross functional groups to ensure accuracy and consistency in reporting across functions.
Assist with the development, documentation, and implementation of procedures and policies pertaining to indirect tax.
Help develop solutions for indirect tax automation identifying technology tools and processes that can help reduce manual work and create efficiencies in the compliance process.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in Indirect Tax and good tax technical knowledge essential.
Experience with US sales tax compliance and audits needed.
A minimum of 4 years of indirect tax related experience, at either a professional accounting firm, industry or tax authority.
Track record of adopting and building new tools quickly and using data/technology to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Experience with account reconciliation, troubleshooting reconciliation differences, and journal review/approval.
Working knowledge of ERPs and tax reporting engines.
Working experience in multinational environment is desired (but not essential)
Experience with gross receipts taxes is a plus

Fluent English language skills required, other major languages are advantageous.
