Overview

Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind one of the world's largest cloud infrastructures, responsible for powering all Microsoft online products and services as well as powering Microsoft's “Cloud First” mission. Within CO+I, estimating is responsible for supporting delivery of datacenter capacity for Microsoft's cloud business. We have a portfolio of complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-million, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects with specific safety, quality, schedule, and cost goals.

 

The Regional Estimator is responsible for the development and maintenance of estimates for all new projects across the Americas. The Estimator will manage all cost estimates, cost data, communications, schedule meetings and be a point of contact between internal and external parties for specific projects or regions being supported. The Estimator will work closely with engineering, construction, procurement, security, networking, and operations teams throughout each project and ensure that cost information developed and managed meets the requirements of those specific project needs. The Estimator will report directly to the Regional Lead Estimator and will have dotted-line interactions with Regional Project Estimators & Cost Manager to continue implementing lessons learned.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain cost estimates for all new datacenter projects across the Americas region.

• Manage all cost estimates, cost data, communications, and schedule meetings; serve as the point of contact between internal and external parties for the specific projects or regions being supported.

• Work closely with engineering, construction, procurement, security, networking, and operations teams throughout each project, ensuring the cost information developed and managed meets the requirements of those specific project needs.

• Report directly to the Regional Lead Estimator and maintain dotted-line interactions with Regional Project Estimators and the Cost Manager to continue implementing lessons learned.

Qualifications

 Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years related experience
    • OR equivalent experience. 

 

Other Requirements

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.   
  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customer and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years' experience construction estimating on major construction portfolios.

• Commercial knowledge of construction internationally.

• Proven written and verbal communication skills, ability to collaborate with all other areas of the data center program, think tactically and strategically, and build the trust of our construction partners to agree to very large construction contracts.

• Clear understanding of the full Construction Life Cycle.

• Capability to perform all forms and types of estimates from parametric to bottoms-up, and high-level what-if scenarios.

• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills beyond estimating practice.

• Ability to develop, maintain, and report out on project scope, schedule, and budget with cost as the main driver in those conversations.

• Cross-group collaborator and influencer across teams and organizations, with proven success participating in cross-functional teams to deliver on key projects.

• Ability to work within a dynamic team of full-time employees and consultants.

• High personal standard to deliver a thoughtful, polished, and quality work estimate and any other report-out deliverable.

• Ability to present data from detailed to high-level depending on audience.

• Experience with Data Center construction programs.



Construction Project Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $116,900 - $203,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $148,400 - $222,600 per year.
