Team Introduction: As a member of ByteDance's Global Tax team, you will be part of an international function spanning the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. The Country Tax team provides strategic tax advice, manages tax risks, and drives efficient tax processes in a fast-paced and evolving business environment.

As the Country Tax Manager, you will be responsible for tax matters across Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. This role offers the opportunity to work cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Product, and other business teams to support new initiatives, provide commercial tax guidance, and help shape the tax framework for one of the world's leading technology companies.

This is a fully office-based role located in Hong Kong. As the position requires close collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders and timely support for business initiatives, the successful candidate will be expected to work onsite five days a week.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan corporate tax compliance matters, tax advisory and forecasts.
  • Review and assess the tax implications of new business initiatives, products, and operating models, and help establish appropriate tax frameworks.
  • Partner with business, finance, legal, and other cross-functional stakeholders to identify tax risks, provide practical tax advice, and support commercial decision-making.
  • Lead communications with local tax authorities, including managing tax audits, enquiries, and other regulatory matters.
  • Maintain and enhance internal tax control frameworks and governance processes to ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and proactively assess their impact on the business while recommending appropriate actions.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related discipline, with a professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent).
  • At least 5 years of corporate tax experience gained in a professional accounting firm and/or an in-house tax function, with strong expertise in tax compliance and advisory matters.
  • Proven experience managing tax compliance, tax reporting, tax provisioning, and tax audits with local tax authorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide practical tax advice in a fast-paced business environment.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin is essential, as this role requires frequent communication with Chinese stakeholders based in Chinese-speaking markets.
  • Highly self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience within multinational technology, internet, TMT, or fintech companies.
  • Experience supporting tax matters across Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan in a regional or multinational organization.
  • Proven ability to assess the tax implications of new business initiatives and recommend commercially practical solutions that balance tax, operational, financial, and regulatory considerations.
  • Familiarity with tax governance frameworks, internal controls, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with experience leveraging technology to improve tax processes.
