Java Developer (Contract)

We are seeking an experienced Java Backend Developer to join a technology team within a leading financial services organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing and enhancing backend applications and financial platforms, with a strong focus on Java, Spring Boot and scalable enterprise solutions. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, high-performance systems supporting critical business functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Java, Spring and Spring Boot.

• Build scalable and reliable financial applications while ensuring performance, security and maintainability.

• Integrate backend systems with internal platforms and external services to support efficient data flows.

• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment and production support.

• Write clean, efficient and maintainable code following engineering best practices.

• Conduct code reviews and contribute to improving development standards and CI/CD processes.

• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across development and production environments.

• Collaborate with product owners, business stakeholders and engineering teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.

• Support application releases, change management activities and post-production implementation.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience in Java backend development.

• Good knowledge of Core Java, including collections, concurrency, JSON, JDBC and related libraries.

• Experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate, JDBC templates and messaging frameworks (JMS preferred).

• Experience developing enterprise applications and integrating complex systems.

• Understanding of software engineering best practices, including testing, code review and CI/CD processes.

• Basic knowledge of Unix/Linux environments and scripting.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.

• Comfortable working in an Agile development environment with global teams.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working within financial services, banking or capital markets technology.

• Exposure to high-volume transaction systems or enterprise platforms.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.
