Job Description

58:T38c7,ABOUT RETOOL

Nearly every company in the world runs on custom software for critical operations like tracking performance metrics, handling support workflows, building admin dashboards, and countless processes you might never have thought of. But most companies don't have the resources to properly invest in these tools, leading to a lot of old, clunky internal software, or worse, teams still stuck in manual and spreadsheet workflows.

AI has changed who gets to build software. The definition of "developer" now includes analysts, operators, and domain experts creating solutions directly—and the tools they reach for are multiplying by the week. That's both an opportunity and a challenge: as more people build with more AI tools, the risk of shipping ungoverned software into production grows just as fast.

At Retool, we're building the platform that makes all of it safe to ship. Build with any AI tool you want, then deploy into one place that connects to your real business data, enforces enterprise policies automatically, and lets teams create once and reuse everywhere with shared, trusted components. The cost of building software has collapsed. The cost of governing it hasn't—and that's the problem we solve.

Developers and domain experts have already automated over 100 million hours of work on our platform, freeing them to focus on creative problem-solving and strategic work that drives real business value. The people closest to the problem can now build the software to solve it, safely, and within enterprise guardrails.

Let's build the future together.

WHY WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU

Retool is becoming the platform enterprises use to build and run apps, automations, and AI agents that act on real business systems. Most organizations start with a few teams building on Retool. The opportunity is to make Retool, and the AI capabilities in it, something the whole organization adopts, on a pricing model that makes sense and with controls admins trust.

We're looking for a Product Manager to own how that happens on Retool.

You'll own three connected areas:

  • Expansion. Build the enterprise platform features that drive wider adoption of Retool and its AI capabilities, making Retool easier to onboard onto, manage, and share across an organization.
  • Monetization. Define how Retool bills for AI usage, including value metrics, packaging, metering, and the upgrade paths customers follow as they grow.
  • Controls. Build the spend controls and usage policies that let admins and finance teams approve more AI: budgets, limits, allocation across teams, and rules for which models, tools, and data each team can use.

These areas depend on each other. Organizations roll out Retool and AI more widely when Retool is easy to onboard onto, manage, and share, when costs are clear, and when admins trust the limits they've set. Clear pricing and good controls remove the reasons to hold back.

AI also changes the commercial model. Usage is variable and hard to predict. The cost and value of an agent depend on the models, tools, data, and actions it uses, not on the number of people building with it. Customers need room to experiment and predictable spend as they scale. Retool needs a business model that encourages adoption and still grows sustainably.

This is a product role with a growth outcome, not a pricing-operations role. You'll work with customers to understand where Retool and AI create value for them, then partner with engineering, design, data, finance, and go-to-market teams to build the platform features, billing systems, and controls that grow usage. You'll lead focused projects from discovery through launch, adoption, and iteration.

You'll start by owning a focused set of projects across these areas, and your scope will grow as you deliver.

You'll join a small, experienced team that values clear thinking, speed, and direct communication, at a company where product is a core driver of how the business grows.

IN THIS ROLE

Your goal is to grow adoption of Retool and its AI capabilities across every organization that uses it.

You'll work across problems like:

  • What would make it easier for a new team or builder to onboard onto Retool and start using its AI capabilities?
  • What do admins need to manage AI usage as adoption grows across the organization?
  • What should customers pay for as they build and run AI apps, workflows, and agents, and which value metrics encourage experimentation while keeping enterprise spend predictable?
  • How can enterprises see which teams and use cases produce the most return, and move AI capacity toward them?
  • Which capabilities should be broadly available, and which should set Retool's enterprise offering apart?

Day to day, you'll:

  • Set the strategy and roadmap across expansion, monetization, and controls, grounding priorities in customer evidence, usage data, technical constraints, and business impact.
  • Find where adoption of Retool stalls inside an organization, whether at onboarding, management, or sharing. Form a hypothesis, ship a platform change, and measure the result.
  • Work with engineering and design on enterprise platform features that drive expansion: onboarding for new teams and builders, managing Retool across the organization, and sharing apps, workflows, and agents across teams.
  • Work with engineering on billing and control systems, such as metering, entitlements, spend controls, usage policies, cost reporting, and upgrade paths.
  • Partner with data and finance to understand unit economics, model customer behavior, and measure the effect of pricing and packaging decisions.
  • Work with enterprise admins, platform owners, and finance leaders to understand how they budget for, govern, and justify AI spend.
  • Partner with Sales and Customer Success to find what blocks expansion, and turn recurring needs into product capabilities rather than one-off deals.
  • Make clear product and commercial tradeoffs without waiting for broad consensus.
  • Define success through outcomes such as adoption of Retool across teams, adoption of Retool's AI capabilities, expansion revenue, spend predictability for customers, and sustainable unit economics.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Experience in billing, monetization, or enterprise platform products is a strong plus. It isn't a requirement. We care most about how you think, and the strongest candidates are exceptional in at least one area below and solid in the rest.

WHAT EVERY CANDIDATE NEEDS

  • 4+ years of product management experience shipping technically complex products, with outcomes you can point to.
  • The technical depth to hold your own with senior engineers on systems like metering pipelines, billing infrastructure, and AI workloads.
  • Comfort with numbers. You can build a model, analyze product data yourself, and reason about unit economics.
  • Strong product judgment. You form opinions, make decisions, explain the reasoning clearly, and change course as you learn.
  • A track record of turning ambiguous, cross-functional problems into clear direction and shipped outcomes.
  • Strong ownership and a willingness to stay close to implementation, not just the roadmap.
  • Hands-on curiosity about AI. You have built or experimented with modern AI tools.

WHERE YOU MIGHT STAND OUT (one is enough)

  • Growth. You've moved an adoption or expansion metric through product changes, and you run experiments carefully.
  • Billing and monetization. You've built usage-based billing, metering, entitlements, or pricing and packaging for a technical product.
  • Enterprise platform. You've built onboarding, admin tooling, sharing, permissions, or spend management for enterprise buyers.
  • Platform. You've built infrastructure or developer-platform products and understand how technical products get adopted across an organization.
  • Zero to one. You've founded or led a product from early stage, and made the pricing and growth decisions yourself.

Prior experience in AI, billing, or enterprise controls will help you ramp faster. If you don't have it but you're an exceptional PM who wants to work on how enterprises adopt Retool and pay for AI, we still want to talk to you.

The people closest to the problem can now build the software to solve it, safely, and within enterprise guardrails.

Let's build the future together.

Why we're looking for you We build products where agents write and run code, and where the environment that code runs in is ours to own. As agents get more capable, users go from prompt to working app in minutes instead of hours, and increasingly they expect agents that don't just generate the app but run the work inside it.

We're looking for engineers who have shipped agentic products into production and kept them running reliably, affordably, and at scale, and who want to bring that experience to developer-facing surfaces used every day by real engineering teams.

What you'll do As an AI Engineer, you'll build the agent platform behind Retool's AI products and own model-driven behavior in production. You will work across the product, infrastructure, and evaluation layers. Your work shapes what users experience and how confidently the team can ship. You might:

  • Own the behavior of agentic features across multiple product surfaces, including quality, safety, variance, and failure modes, and shape the tool and harness surface agents operate against, including MCP servers, sub-agents, and skills
  • Work across the product and infrastructure boundary, shaping agent behavior while understanding what it costs at runtime, and serve as the infrastructure team's technical counterpart on agent workloads
  • Design and evolve prompting, context construction, retrieval, routing, and tool-use strategies for long-horizon workflows, and build the evaluation systems that measure them through statistical signals, distributions, and trends rather than pass/fail tests
  • Detect, diagnose, and resolve non-deterministic failures such as hallucinations, partial correctness, instruction drift, or context sensitivity, working from transcripts and traces rather than logs alone
  • Partner closely with product and infrastructure teams on how agent workloads are provisioned, isolated, and rolled out, including for self-hosted customers, and set the pattern for how we ship agentic products safely

You'll work across the stack (TypeScript, Node.js, React), but your leverage won't come from code volume alone. It will come from shaping runtime behavior with precision, measurement, and intent.

What this role is, and is not It is

  • Accountable for agent behavior, not just system correctness
  • Designing, Building, and Deploying agentic products in both cloud and self-hosted environments
  • Grounded in evaluation, iteration, and regression prevention under non-determinism
  • Comfortable designing systems where outputs vary, confidence is probabilistic, and correctness is contextual

It is not

  • Adding LLM calls to existing features and moving on
  • Shipping AI features without owning their long-term reliability, drift, or user trust
  • An SRE role, though you'll own the agent-side bugs that surface as infrastructure incidents
  • Model training or research, though you'll shape model behavior, selection, and tool design

THE SKILLSET YOU’LL BRING

  • 6+ years of professional engineering experience, with ownership over complex systems in production
  • Production experience with agentic systems, including context engineering, tool use, and evaluation frameworks, at real user scale rather than in pilots or demos
  • Hands-on experience with sandboxing technology and running agents inside sandboxed environments
  • Experience in Kubernetes or equivalent in practice (EKS, ECS, or similar), owning services end to end
  • Strong systems thinking, with the instinct to use AI as an augment to engineering judgment rather than a replacement for it
  • Curiosity in why a model produced what it did, and the habit of checking rather than assuming
  • Experience mentoring engineers on this kind of work, including when to lean on a model and when not to

BONUS POINTS

  • Experience building for developer surfaces like CLIs, IDE extensions, or coding harnesses
  • Experience shipping into enterprise or air-gapped environments, where you debug systems you can't directly observe

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH You'll join a small, senior team focused on advancing AI capabilities across the product. You'll collaborate closely with product engineers, infra engineers, designers, and PMs, often acting as the final owner of AI behavior and quality before features reach users. Your work will set standards that others build on. If you enjoy being the person teams rely on when AI behavior matters most, even when certainty is never guaranteed, you'll thrive here.

READY TO BUILD RELIABLE AI SYSTEMS? If you're excited to move beyond demos and take real ownership of nondeterministic behavior in production, defining quality, preventing regressions, and turning variability into a strength, we'd love to meet you.

WHY WE’RE LOOKING FOR YOU:

As the EMEA HR Business Partner, you'll be the People team's primary representative in the region and a key partner to EMEA leaders, managers, and employees. This is not a traditional HRBP role with a narrowly defined business-partnering remit. Instead, you'll operate across the full breadth of the People function, combining hands-on People Operations, HR business partnering, Recruiting support, and close partnership with Workplace, as and when required. You'll be equally comfortable rolling up your sleeves to solve an operational problem, supporting a hiring process, helping a manager navigate a people issue, or partnering with Workplace on the employee experience, and then stepping back to identify broader organisational trends, advise leaders, and shape regional People priorities.

You'll be the eyes and ears of the broader People team in EMEA: building strong relationships across the region, understanding what is happening on the ground, bringing regional context and insights back to the global People team, and helping translate global People programmes into an effective EMEA experience. This is a highly varied role for someone who enjoys switching between tactical execution and strategic business partnership, thrives in ambiguity, and is energised by building and improving things as the organisation grows.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Act as the primary People team partner for EMEA, building trusted relationships with regional leaders, managers, and employees across Pre-Sales, Post-Sales, Professional Services, Support, RevOps, Marketing, and Partnerships
  • Partner with managers on performance, employee relations, feedback, development, team health, and other day-to-day people matters
  • Provide hands-on People Operations support across the employee lifecycle, partnering with the global People Operations team to ensure processes are delivered effectively in EMEA.
  • Support the Recruitment team for EMEA hires, including partnering with hiring managers, participating in interviews, and providing regional context where needed
  • Partner closely with Workplace function, to support employee experience, engagement, events, and regional culture initiatives.
  • Be the eyes and ears of the broader People team in EMEA; proactively identifying themes, risks, opportunities, and feedback from the region and bringing those insights back to the global team
  • Support the rollout of any global People programmes in EMEA, while identifying where regional requirements or context call for a different approach
  • Help managers and leaders navigate complex and sensitive people situations, balancing employee experience, business needs, and appropriate risk management
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, Workplace, Recruiting, and other cross-functional teams on regional people matters, as and when required
  • Build strong relationships with EMEA leadership and use your understanding of the business to provide thoughtful, commercially aware People advice
  • Switch comfortably between tactical execution and strategic business partnership depending on what the business needs
  • Help the broader People team stay connected to what is happening across EMEA and ensure the region is well represented in global People priorities

THE SKILLSET YOU’LL BRING:

  • You have 5+ years of experience in a broad HRBP, People Partner, or generalist role, ideally in a fast-growing technology company
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with GTM leaders and teams, serving as a trusted HR advisor across functions such as Sales, Marketing, Partnerships, RevOps, Customer Success, Support, and Professional Services
  • Hands-on experience with UK benefits and HR operations, including managing employee lifecycle events, partnering with vendors, ensuring local compliance, and driving a smooth employee experience.
  • You’re a true generalist who enjoys variety and is comfortable operating across People Operations, employee relations, recruiting, workplace/employee experience, and strategic business partnering
  • You’re equally comfortable getting into the weeds on a tactical problem and stepping back to advise a senior leader on a broader organisational issue
  • You have strong judgement and experience handling sensitive employee relations and performance matters
  • You’re comfortable operating with ambiguity and building structure where processes or ownership may not yet be fully defined
  • You’re highly proactive and naturally curious, you notice what is happening around you, ask questions, connect dots, and bring issues forward before they become problems
  • You have strong business acumen and can understand the needs of the business beyond the People function
  • You’re an excellent communicator and relationship builder, able to build trust with everyone from individual employees to senior leaders
  • You’re highly organised and able to switch between competing priorities without losing sight of what matters
  • You’re collaborative and comfortable working as part of a global People team while independently representing the function in EMEA
  • You have experience working across EMEA and a good understanding of UK employment practices; broader European experience is a plus
  • You’re based in London and can commit to our hybrid work model (Mon, Tue and Thur on-site)
