Senior Solutions Engineer
Job Description
Shopify's Solutions Engineers are trusted technical advisors who help merchants design and adopt the right commerce solutions. You'll blend technical depth, commercial awareness, and clear communication to guide merchants through complex, multi-stakeholder decisions.
As a Senior Solutions Engineer on the APAC team, you'll support merchants across Australia and New Zealand. The team operates with a high degree of self-sufficiency. Time zones, market complexity, and regional scale mean you'll need to be hands-on, collaborative, and comfortable using AI as a daily multiplier.
Key Responsibilities
Run deep discovery with merchants and partners, mapping workflows, systems, constraints, risks, and success metrics to find the real problem behind stated requirements.
Design practical solution architectures across Shopify's commerce stack and adjacent systems (ERP, OMS, payments, integrations), including migration paths from legacy platforms.
Make it real through tailored demos, prototypes, diagrams, workshops, and technical narratives that connect Shopify capabilities to merchant-specific outcomes.
Partner cross-functionally with Account Executives, Solution Partners, Product, Launch, and CSM teams to shape opportunity strategy, remove blockers, and translate field insights back into the business.
Use AI to accelerate your work, from merchant research and transcript synthesis to demo planning and technical validation, while building reusable tools, prompts, and workflows that create leverage for the team.
Apply judgment on when to go deep, when to simplify, when to bring in specialists, and when to challenge assumptions.
Qualifications
Relevant experience in solutions engineering, sales engineering, technical consulting, solutions architecture, or commerce technology implementation.
Technical fluency across APIs, integrations, data flows, authentication, webhooks, and modern SaaS architecture, with enough depth to shape practical, adoptable solutions.
Strong requirements discovery skills, including gathering, inferring, and interpreting complex business needs from customers, then translating them into clear technical requirements and scalable solutions across Shopify and adjacent systems.
Commercial instincts that connect technical recommendations to merchant outcomes, including revenue growth, operational efficiency, customer experience, and risk reduction.
Clear communication, with the judgment to turn complexity into simple, compelling stories for both executive and technical audiences, written and verbal.
Strong stakeholder influence, including earning trust, reading the room, building champions, and navigating tension across technical, executive, and partner stakeholders.
Comfort with ambiguity and self-directed learning in a fast-moving, regionally distributed team.
Practical use of AI tools without over-relying on them as a substitute for technical thinking or customer empathy.
Based in Australia, with ability to travel for customer meetings, partner engagements, and team events.
Nice to Haves
Experience with Shopify, commerce platforms, POS, B2B, retail operations, or integration-heavy environments, particularly in ANZ enterprise or mid-market sales cycles.
Familiarity with JavaScript, Liquid, React, GraphQL, REST APIs, SQL, or similar. Enough to build small things that clarify feasibility (prototypes, scripts, demo stores, proof points).
Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development or workflow tools (Claude, Cursor, Gemini, NotebookLM, or similar).
A track record of creating reusable assets, enablement, or internal systems that make others around you better.
