Job Description

WHO WE ARE

Ema is building the next generation AI technology to empower every employee in the enterprise to be their most creative and productive. Our proprietary tech allows enterprises to delegate most repetitive tasks to Ema, the AI Employee.

We are founded by ex-Google, Coinbase, and Okta executives and serial entrepreneurs. We've raised capital from notable investors including Accel Partners, Naspers, and Section32, along with prominent Silicon Valley angels such as Sheryl Sandberg (Facebook/Google), Jerry Yang (Yahoo), Dustin Moskovitz (Facebook/Asana), David Baszucki (Roblox CEO), and Gokul Rajaram (DoorDash, Square, Google).

Our team comprises engineers from Google, Microsoft Research, Facebook, Square/Block, and Coinbase — with most hailing from top-tier institutions like Stanford, MIT, UC Berkeley, CMU, and IIT.

THE ROLE

As an Engineering Leader at Ema, you will build and lead a high-performance product engineering organization — setting the technical standard for product quality and shipping velocity. You will collaborate directly with the Head of Engineering, product managers, and co-founders to architect and drive Ema's product roadmap from engineering conception through customer delivery.

We are looking for a leader who combines deep, hands-on product engineering expertise — you still write and review production code regularly — with the executive presence required to attract, mentor, develop, and retain top-tier engineering talent. You will own the technical direction for the surfaces that customers interact with every day: the AI Employee, Agentic Apps, the Builder Platform, and the Integrations layer.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Team Building & Engineering Culture

  • Recruit, hire, and develop senior engineers across product-focused sub-teams: AI Employee & Personas, Agentic Apps, Builder Platform, and Integrations & Connectors.

  • Establish engineering standards, code review culture, and a strong bias toward shipping — with equal commitment to user-facing quality and customer experience.

  • Coach and grow senior/staff engineers into technical leaders; manage engineering managers as the organization scales.

Technical Strategy & Execution

  • Set the 6–18 month product engineering roadmap in partnership with product managers and design, balancing foundational investments against shipping velocity.

  • Make high-stakes architectural decisions — feature design, API contracts, integration strategy, data modeling — and own the outcomes end to end.

  • Drive cross-functional alignment with product, ML/AI, and go-to-market teams to ensure the product evolves in lockstep with customer needs and market feedback.

Operational Excellence

  • Own feature quality and reliability across all product surfaces: customer-reported issues, release processes, and quality bar definition.

  • Establish and iterate on engineering practices that keep the team shipping fast without compromising product quality or user experience.

  • Participate in executive-level reviews on product velocity, engineering health, and team capacity.

WHAT YOU BRING

Required

  • 12+ years of software engineering experience, with 4+ years leading product engineering teams of 8+ engineers at high-growth startups or top-tier tech companies.

  • Deep, hands-on expertise in building customer-facing product features at scale — you write production code regularly and lead by example on complex feature development.

  • Experience designing and shipping LLM-powered features, agentic workflows, API platforms, or SaaS product integrations at scale.

  • Strong programming ability in Python and TypeScript/JavaScript; you read and write code daily and can mentor engineers on product-level system design.

  • Experience building quality software using AI-driven tools and workflows.

  • Track record of taking products from 0→1 and iterating rapidly based on customer feedback.

  • Strong product sense: ability to deeply understand user problems and translate them into clean, well-scoped technical solutions.

  • Proven ability to hire, develop, and retain high-caliber product engineers in competitive markets.

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience building no-code/low-code builder platforms, workflow automation products, or developer-facing product tooling.

  • Background shipping enterprise SaaS products with multi-tenancy and compliance requirements (SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA).

  • Experience building third-party integration platforms, connector frameworks, or API marketplace products.

  • Prior success shipping AI-native product features in enterprise settings — e.g., agentic automation, LLM orchestration, or AI-driven UX.

  • Experience building human-in-the-loop (HITL) workflows or enterprise workflow automation products.

WHY Ema

  • Greenfield product challenges at the frontier of enterprise AI — you will build experiences that have never existed before.

  • Direct access to founders and the CTO; your decisions shape both the technical architecture and the product roadmap.

  • A team of exceptional engineers from Google, Meta, Microsoft Research, and top CS programs worldwide.

  • Competitive compensation, meaningful equity, and the upside of an early-stage company backed by world-class investors.

Ema is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
