Senior Software Engineer, Engineering Internal Velocity
Job Description
About Persona
Persona is the configurable identity platform built for businesses in a digital-first world. Verifying individuals and organizations is harder — but more important — than ever, with AI enabling fraudsters to launch sophisticated accounts at scale and regulations evolving rapidly.
We’ve built Persona to support practically every use case and industry — that’s why we’re able to serve a wide range of leading companies. For example, Reddit relies on Persona for age assurance and verification to comply with online safety regulations, protecting younger users while maintaining a seamless experience. Meanwhile, OpenAI relies on Persona to keep bad actors out, protecting one of the world’s most powerful AI platforms from large-scale abuse in a time when AI is reshaping the way we work and live.
We’re growing rapidly and looking for exceptional people to join us!
About the role
AI-assisted development is making engineers faster than ever. This is great, but it also means more code, more deploys, and more ways for changes to break things in production. The EIV team exists to make sure Persona can ship fast without lighting fires along the way. We're building the change safety infrastructure (deploy pipelines, rollback mechanisms, anomaly detection, CI guardrails) that lets every engineer at Persona move with confidence instead of fear.
We're looking for a lead engineer who wants to own this problem end to end: set the vision for how Persona safely ships software at scale, then build the systems that make that vision real.
What you'll do at Persona
Own the hardest part of moving to continuous deployment: changing how engineers work. That means setting expectations around test coverage before merge, rethinking where QA fits in the workflow, and building an engineering culture where shipping continuously feels safe and normal.
Define what "safe to ship" means at Persona as AI-assisted development accelerates the volume and velocity of changes. Engineers are writing more code faster than ever. You'll make sure our detection, gating, and rollback systems evolve to match.
Set the strategy for how we catch bad changes before customers do; whether that's automated canary analysis, smarter CI gates, or better observability, and make sure engineers actually trust and use what we build.
Make the safe path the easy path. If doing the right thing requires extra effort or tribal knowledge, that's a problem you'll fix through better defaults, better tooling, or better standards.
Must haves
7+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent practical experience.
You've built or substantially improved deploy pipelines, CI/CD systems, or release infrastructure. Not just used them, owned them.
Hands-on experience with multi-regional applications, background jobs, and database migrations. You understand the failure modes that come with operating at scale.
Proactive approach to solving problems. We want someone who tells us how to fix our problems, not someone who waits to be told.
Nice to haves
Prior experience with Ruby/Rails.
Experience with progressive delivery systems (Kubernetes, Argo Rollouts, LaunchDarkly, Statsig, or similar).
Background in incident response, post mortem analysis, or SRE.
Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows and the change safety challenges they introduce.
About the team
Small, senior, high-leverage group focused on how code makes it to production. We're part of Persona's Resilience Roadmap where our work is felt by every engineer who ships code.
Remote is possible for the right candidate.
Full-time Employee Benefits and Perks
For full-time employees (excluding internship and contractor opportunities), Persona offers a wide range of benefits, including medical, dental, and vision, 3% 401(k) contribution, unlimited PTO, quarterly mental health days, family planning benefits, professional development stipend, wellness benefits, among others. While we believe competitive compensation and benefits are a critical aspect of you deciding to join us, we do hope you consider why our core values and culture are right for you.
