About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and high-performing Junior Field Technician to join our team in New Zealand, supporting the maintenance and performance of Halter’s on-farm hardware infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring our systems are operating efficiently, resolving technical issues quickly, and helping to refine and improve the reliability of our hardware across our customer network.

Note this role is based in the Waikato and NZ wide travel is required.

This is a hands-on position that requires strong technical ability, problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to field operations. You may find yourself maintaining and upgrading infrastructure one day and deploying new equipment on-farm the next. You’ll be the go-to person for ensuring everything runs smoothly, delivering exceptional service and support to our customers. As a Junior Field Technician, you’ll work closely with our hardware, product, and customer success teams, ensuring effective collaboration and a strong feedback loop between the field and our Auckland HQ.

This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact in transforming New Zealand’s dairy and livestock industry through world-class agri-tech innovation.

What your day could look like

  • Infrastructure Maintenance: Oversee the upkeep and repair of Halter’s infrastructure to ensure seamless operations.

  • Hardware Diagnosis: Diagnose any issues with our hardware and feed this information back to the relevant team.

  • Versatility: Ability to transition smoothly between tasks, from repairing and upgrading infrastructure to delivering towers and collars as needed.

  • Deployment Support: Provide critical on-site support during farm deployments if needed, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring successful installations.

  • On-call: Be part of the global on-call roster to support tower-related incidents and proactively find solutions in a timely manner.

  • Collaboration: Work closely across all of the Halter teams to ensure alignment and successful customer outcomes.

  • Problem-Solving: Address and resolve technical challenges promptly and effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to farm operations.

  • Adaptability: Be prepared to manage a variety of tasks, often simultaneously, to meet the dynamic needs of the role.

  • Data Analysis: Ability to collect, interpret, and analyze data from our hardware, optimize processes, and inform decision-making. You'll ensure that actionable insights are extracted to improve operational efficiency and resolve issues proactively.

  • Development and management of a maintenance system for our NZ market.

  • Travel: travel within the Waikato and Bay of Plenty region + some NZ wide travel will be required.

Who are we looking for

  • Practical, hands-on experience with tools, electrical work, construction, networking, or equipment fitting is a must!

  • Go-Getter Attitude: A proactive approach, with a willingness to tackle challenges head-on and figure things out on the go.

  • Handiness: Practical skills and resourcefulness, with the ability to handle a wide range of tasks even without specific technical training.

  • Time management skills: Ability to manage your own time so that tasks are completed on schedule.

  • Team-Oriented Approach: Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different locations.

  • Commitment to Excellence: A dedication to providing the highest quality service, ensuring that Halter’s infrastructure is always operating at its best.

  • Willingness to travel: Spontaneous & planned travel will be included in this role. You might be 3 or 4 days on the road per week. You may also be away from home a couple of nights per week.

Bonus Qualifications (These are not mandatory for you to apply)

  • Agriculture Experience (Preferred): While not mandatory, experience in the agriculture sector would be highly beneficial.
