About the Team
The Developer Experience team is a new group at OpenAI with a singular focus: making developers successful. Our mission is to empower every developer and startup on the planet to build on the OpenAI platform, providing them with the most delightful developer experience to seamlessly integrate AI into their apps and products. We are dedicated to ensuring that developers have the tools, resources, and support they need to unlock the full potential of AI in their projects.
The Developer Experience team partners very closely with the product and engineering teams building the OpenAI API, all GTM functions, as well as research and leadership. Across all product lines, we ensure that these powerful tools are used responsibly. This is a key part of OpenAI’s path towards safely deploying broadly beneficial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Safety is more important to us than unfettered growth. This role is based in Bangalore, India.
About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled and passionate Developer Advocate to join our Developer Experience team. As a Developer Advocate, you will play a crucial role in engaging with our developer community and advocating for developers’ needs within OpenAI.
You will be using and advocating for new models and capabilities, such as GPT-4 Turbo, Vision, Whisper, TTS, and more, by building high-quality sample apps and demos, creating compelling technical content, shaping our documentation, as well as building developer tools for developers to build on top of the OpenAI API — everyone from hobbyist developers to Fortune 500 companies. You will also collaborate closely with the research and API teams as we bring the latest cutting-edge models to our platform.
As a Developer Advocate, you will:
Create and curate high-quality technical content, such as tutorials, blog posts, videos, and code samples, to educate and inspire developers.
Engage with the developer community, building strong relationships and fostering a vibrant ecosystem around OpenAI’s technologies.
Be a tireless champion for developers and their needs, gathering and organizing their feedback to inform our product roadmap.
Build relationships with key developers and help nurture a community of developers on our platform, representing OpenAI at developer events and online forums, serving as a knowledgeable and approachable ambassador for our platform.
Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and marketing teams to drive adoption and success of OpenAI’s APIs and developer tools.
Contribute to the development and enhancement of all OpenAI's developer surfaces to provide a seamless experience for developers.
We’re looking for a blend of:
Strong full-stack engineering background, with experience building with AI and LLMs.
Proven track record of engaging with developers to help them find success with API-based products, and building developer communities.
Deep user empathy and an understanding of what’s required for a product experience to be great and an appreciation that the details matter.
Creativity and passion for exploring new ways to connect with and empower developers.
Pride in crafting delightful developer tools and high-quality demos and sample projects.
A history of creating documentation, how-to content, and code that help developers find success with technical products.
An ability to write high-quality code, documentation, how-to content that help developers find success with technical products.
Ownership of problems end-to-end, and are willing to pick up whatever knowledge you’re missing to get the job done.
Team player with a collaborative mindset, able to work effectively across different teams and disciplines.
Ability to move fast in an environment where things are sometimes loosely defined and may have competing priorities or deadlines.
Experience with or a strong interest in AI ethics and safety, aligning with OpenAI's commitment to responsible AI development.
