Server Operations Engineer

Job Description & Requirements

We are hiring Server Operations Engineers (SOE) across multiple seniority levels to support rapid growth, reliability, and operational excellence. As a Server Operations Engineer, you will play a key role in operating and scaling hyperscale server infrastructure. You will work in a fast‑paced environment where automation, reliability, and operational discipline are critical. Depending on seniority, the role combines hands‑on execution, problem‑solving, and technical leadership across regional data centre operations.

The Position:

Junior Server Operations Engineer (L1)

• Support server installation, maintenance, and replacement activities
• Perform basic Linux administration and routine operational checks
• Assist with hardware inspections and first‑level troubleshooting
• Carry out basic network checks (e.g. connectivity, cabling, MAC / TCP‑IP)
• Follow established procedures for rack‑and‑stack and issue escalation
• Work alongside senior engineers and vendors during deployment

Senior Server Operations Engineer (L2)

• Independently manage server deployment, maintenance, and fault isolation
• Perform large‑scale OS installations (e.g. PXE or similar methods)
• Troubleshoot Linux OS, hardware, and networking issues in production environments
• Write and maintain scripts (Bash / Shell / Python) to automate operational tasks
• Collaborate closely with Supply Chain, Program Management, and Operations teams
• Contribute to documentation, root‑cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives

Principal Server Operations Engineer (L3)

•  Serve as a technical subject‑matter expert for large‑scale data centre operations
• Lead complex deployments and operational projects across multiple sites
• Drive standardization, documentation quality, and knowledge‑sharing initiatives
• Mentor and guide junior and senior engineers within the team
• Partner with regional stakeholders and external vendors to improve service delivery
• Identify opportunities to optimise systems, tooling, and operational processes

The Candidate:

Core Technical Skills (All Levels)

•  Strong working knowledge of Linux operating systems
• Understanding of networking fundamentals (e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, subnetting; depth varies by level)
• Familiarity with data centre operations, including server lifecycle management
• Exposure to automation and scripting (at least Bash/Shell; Python at senior levels)
• Knowledge of out‑of‑band management (e.g. IPMI) is advantageous

Experience Expectations by Level

Junior (L1):

• Foundational training in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
• Strong willingness to learn in a hands‑on operational environment

Senior (L2):

• Experience supporting large‑scale server or data centre environments
• Hands‑on exposure to OS deployment, automation, and hardware troubleshooting
• Ability to work independently on complex operational issues

Principal (L3):

• Extensive experience managing hyperscale or enterprise‑level infrastructure
• Proven experience leading technical initiatives and mentoring engineers
• Strong documentation, process improvement, and stakeholder management skills
