Software Engineer, Infrastructure
Job Description
About Runloop
Runloop.ai is pioneering the next generation of infrastructure and orchestration to power the Agentic Web/age of AI Agents. Our platform empowers developers to deploy agents that write code, browse the web, and use computers the way a human would. We're a small team of former Google and Stripe engineers, including the co-founder of Google Wallet and 100% of its founding team, dedicated to solving the complex challenges of productionizing AI for software engineering at scale.
The Role
We are looking for an infrastructure SWE to own the core systems that make AI agent workloads fast, safe, and reliable at Runloop. You'll be a hands-on contributor working directly with our team on a brand new compute paradigm that powers the next generation of AI agents. This is foundational infrastructure work close to the metal, building execution environments, orchestration, isolation, and networking for enterprise customers in highly regulated spaces. You'll work with MicroVMs, Kubernetes, AWS, and GCP to create a robust, scalable, and secure foundation for our users' AI software engineering agents.
Responsibilities
Drive performance optimization across the platform, including deep dives into networking, kernel-level behavior, and database/backend internals. Faster is always better, and this will be a constant focus area
Design, build, and own distributed systems from the ground up, not just operate infrastructure other teams have already built, spanning sandboxed execution environments, containerization, MicroVMs, and distributed job orchestration
Build and scale secure VPC deployments for enterprise customers in highly regulated industries, including defense
Own reliability, security, and observability of the systems you build, from design through monitoring and incident response
Diagnose and resolve complex networking, kernel-level, and low-level performance issues across the stack
Work with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Pulumi, Grafana, and Prometheus to build infrastructure that scales with rapidly growing demand
Collaborate with product engineering teams to integrate infrastructure with Runloop's AI software engineering platform
Optimize infrastructure for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency
Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in cloud infrastructure and AI technologies
Qualifications
Strong computer science fundamentals, backed by a degree from a top-tier CS/EE program, or equivalent experience
4-7 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on infrastructure and platform development
Strong experience with MicroVMs, Kubernetes, AWS, and GCP
Experience building and scaling secure VPC deployments, ideally for enterprise customers in regulated or defense environments
Proficiency with Docker, including Docker-in-Docker container builds
Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform or Pulumi
Experience with observability and monitoring tooling, such as Grafana and Prometheus
Proficiency in one or more systems programming languages, such as Golang, Rust, or Java
Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, such as CI/CD pipelines and configuration management
Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for building scalable, reliable systems
Bonus Points
Experience with AI/ML workloads and infrastructure
Experience in container optimization with projects like overlaybd, buildkit, or discoball
Experience with security best practices and compliance requirements for cloud infrastructure in regulated industries
Contributions to open-source projects
Benefits
Competitive salary and equity
Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents
Opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and make a real impact on the future of software engineering
Daily catered lunch for all employees and a fridge full of your favorite snacks and drinks
Location:
Onsite 4 days a week in San Francisco; Optional 1 day a week remote
